Years Of Experience

Hi i'm Gavin

I have been photographing the Lake District since early 2005 and have become incredibly knowledgeable about this beautiful place, when and where to photograph depending on the weather conditions, light and time of year. This is valuable information that has been gained from hundreds of days spent exploring and discovering different parts of the Lake District. I know the Lakes intimately and my passion for the area never fades.

Lake District Location Guide

The Lake District is world renowned for being the most beautiful National Park in England. It's very popular with walkers, hikers, photographers and tourists. It’s obvious to see how this amazing rugged landscape has claimed its glory! With its many lakes, valleys and fells, the area attracts a wide variety of people who enjoy outdoor activities. From England's highest mountain Scafell Pike to a gentle stroll around Derwentwater; there’s a location here for everyone, especially landscape photographers! It’s amazing how much natural beauty is packed into such a small area of land in the North-West of England.

Wasdale

In the heart of the Western Lake District lies the outstanding landscape of Wasdale. A long deep lake, big rugged mountains and tons of huge remote open areas are bound to give you a true sense of wilderness! The area is probably best known for being home to Wastwater; Englands deepest lake and Scafell Pike; Englands highest mountain! It takes a little bit of effort getting here compared to other more easily accessible locations in the lakes but I can guarantee that it’s always worth the longer journey!

Buttermere

This area is regarded as one of the most awe inspiring areas of the Lake District, with it being very easy to find yourself in areas of complete remoteness. On a perfect Winter's morning, it's hard to find a place more serene and tranquil than by the shoreline of Buttermere. With the exception of the odd fellow photographer, most mornings here you can find yourself in complete solitude, with not another person in sight!

Langdale

Blea Tarn is one of many great locations for landscape photographers. A small mountain tarn in a hanging valley between Little Langdale and Great Langdale, Blea Tarn offers a large variety of photographic opportunities, not only from the tarn itself but also from up on top of the surrounding fells.

Catbells

Located on the Western side of Derwentwater and is arguably one of the best viewpoints in the Lake District. Catbells Popular amongst photographers and tourists alike and once at the summit it's easy to see why. The hump like shape of Catbells that leads to the view towards Skiddaw and Blencathra, toppled with an impressive view of Derwentwater make not just for ample photographic opportunities, but views that will quite literally take your breath away.

River Brathay

An absolutely stunning section of the River Brathay resides just South-West of Elterwater; an easy flat pleasant walk with very good accessibility. This stunning area has recently become increasingly popular amongst the landscape photography folk, especially in Autumn and for very good reason; it is a beautiful location.
